Meet our Teachers

Mrs. Jenkins

Mrs. Jenkins graduated with her Bachelors degree from Utah State University and her Masters Degree in Education from University of Phoenix. She has taught Kindergarten for 13 years. Previous to that she was lead teacher for 7 years in the district Preschool department. She is married to her husband Bruce and they have one son, Parker, who is in 3rd grade at Oakwood. They also have 2 cats (Silver and Oreo) and 3 dogs (Max, Snuggles and Bentley).

Teaching young children is her passion. She loves teaching Kindergarten and fills her classroom with reading, math, science and lots of fun (Grinch-mix and Gingerbread houses are just the beginning).

When she is not at school, you can find Mrs. Jenkins… at home working on remodeling and decorating her house and spending time with her family. She enjoys outdoor movie nights year round, around the fire pit with hot cocoa and making s'mores. Last but not least she enjoys attending Utah Utes Football Games and Jazz basketball games.

When school is out for the summer she enjoys traveling to California to watch Angels Baseball and spend time with her extended family in Santa Barbara.

Mrs. Hurd

This is my 38th year teaching! I have taught 2nd through 6th grade students throughout the years. I plan on teaching for one more year until I ride off into the sunset with my husband.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy cooking, reading, the ocean, painting rocks, and spending time with my family. I have 3 daughters and 4 gorgeous grandchildren.

I graduated from BYU, with a degree in Early Childhood Education, so my veins run blue. I also have a Master’s Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from Chapman University in Orange, California. I have teaching endorsements in Gifted and Talented Learners, English Language Learners, and well as a National Board Certification.

I am thrilled to be at Oakwood. I love how supportive and involved the parents are, and the students...they're the best!

1st Grade

Mrs. Bowen

This is my third year at Oakwood and third year in First grade. I love it here and couldn’t imagine being anywhere else! I really enjoy teaching First grade because I get to see the students become amazing readers. I was born and raised in Salt Lake and received my Bachelors in Elementary Education at the University of Utah. I have been married to my high school sweetheart, Matt, for two years. We have one rambunctious German Shepherd, Theo. In my free time I enjoy sewing/quilting, baking, and spending time with my family. In the fall you can find me attending and watching University of Utah football games and Skyline High football games. My favorite season is winter- so I can ski! In the summer I like to mountain bike, golf, play tennis, fish, go to the beach or go camping. I am so grateful for the Oakwood community and for all the love and support you give.

Mrs. Roller

This is my 17th year teaching at Oakwood Elementary! Prior to teaching at Oakwood, I taught preschool with Granite School District while my children were young. I have taught Preschool, Kindergarten and First Grade and have loved them all.

I graduated from Weber State University, with a degree in Early Childhood Education. I have a teaching endorsement from the University of Utah in STEM and a Gifted and Talented Learners endorsement from Southern Utah University.

When I am not teaching, I enjoy spending time with my family. I am a wife, and mom to my favorite girl and two favorite boys! I love traveling, camping, hiking, kayaking, fishing, gardening, and baking. My newest hobby has been beach combing for sea glass!

I love teaching at Oakwood! Our students and school are magical! I grew up in this area and it will always hold a spot in my heart!

2nd Grade

Mrs. Larkin

This will be my 6th year teaching at Oakwood, but I have also been at two other schools in this district. I have a Master’s Degree, a gifted and talented teaching endorsement, and a reading endorsement. I have taught 1st, 3rd, 6th, and 2nd grades. Each grade is so different from each other, and offers its own unique challenges and rewards. Even though I prefer teaching the lower grades, 6th grade was an absolute joy to teach. At that age, the kids are so capable and insightful.

Although teaching plays a big role in my life, my biggest role is that of a mom and a wife. I married one of the nicest guys ever, who after 19 years, still makes me laugh. We have two beautiful boys, Jason 7th grade, and Zander 2nd grade.

When I’m not working, I enjoy eating good food and tasty treats, going to the gym due to all the food and treats, going to outdoor markets/shops/stores, watching football and basketball, and watching Netflix shows with my husband.

Ms. Berg

I am thrilled to be at Oakwood this year teaching 2nd grade!

I was born and raised here in Salt Lake City and love every bit of it. After high school, I went to Utah Valley University where I graduated with my Bachelors of Science in Elementary Education last year.

Although I love teaching, I love other things too. I love chocolate, fashion, Diet Dr. Pepper, boating, traveling and movie theatre popcorn. I am married to a good lookin’ cowboy that I met on a blind date at the beginning of the pandemic! Here is a picture of us this summer in Sacramento, CA. I hope you all can understand a little bit more about me, and I’m so excited to do the same with Oakwood and my class! It’s going to be a great year!
